10th Young Professionals Sustainability Imbizo happening In-Person

24 June 2022. The 10th CESA Young Professionals Sustainability Imbizo (YP Imbizo) is set to take place at the Accolades Boutique Venue in Midrand on the 28th and 29th of June this year. This will be the first non-virtual event to be hosted by the CESA YPF since 2019, owing to the lockdown due to COVID-19. The YP Imbizo provides a unique and dynamic platform for young professionals in the built environment in both the public and private sectors to discuss pertinent issues relating to all aspects of delivery and maintenance of infrastructure and engineering projects.

Expressing her excitement about this upcoming event, CESA YPF National Chairperson, Renee Petersen said the aim of the Imbizo was to bring young people together and allow them to interact with peers and leaders whist the 10th year of the YP imbizo will embody this. “After the relaxed COVID-19 restrictions, we are looking forward to having the first in-person imbizo in 2 years and this will definitely be one to remember, this would be the biggest and best YP Imbizo yet. We are excited that this will be the 10th year of the YP Imbizo, and with the President recently ending the national state of disaster, we are happy that it will be held in person,” she said.

The YP Imbizo seeks to establish and maintain structures for young professionals to become role models for school learners as well as provide coaching and mentoring opportunities for young professionals from senior infrastructure professionals.

Pertinent organisations – SAICA, Law Society of South Africa, ECSA, University of the Witwatersrand and University of Johannesburg have been invited to empower young professionals under the topic “the Professionalisation of the accounting, legal, health & engineering professions.” 8 Abstracts have been submitted by young professionals who want to be part of the solutions to service delivery and personal development problems, including youth unemployment. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for companies with an interest in contributing towards sustaining the future of engineering.

The YP Imbizo objectives include:

– Empowering young professionals with the best leadership experience embracing objectivity,

community participation/activisms, professionalism, and promotion of engineering principles.

– Establishing and maintaining organisational structures for young professionals to act as role models for school learners and senior infrastructure/engineering professionals to mentor young professionals.

– Providing solutions to skills development and retention by the public sector and private sector. Without engineering skills, there will be no provision for water, housing, and road services but abject poverty, inequality and unemployment will prevail.
