Chinese-led consortium wins coal-fired power plant after presenting lower price during bidding process

Chinese-led consortium in partnership with an egyptian person has won the contract. Meanwhile the contract is for the construction of a new power plant that will help grow the nation power sector.

The contractors won the bid after presenting the lowest price on how to complete the project. According to report, the bid offered was $4.4 billion which is lower than the original $5.8 billion bid presented.

Al Ahram newspaper said Egyptian Electricity Holding Company was also considering other bids from different consortium. The report said that the consortium include Orascom Construction, Elsewedy Electric and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems and another led by General Electric.

The chineses-led consortium had Egyptian contractor Hassan Allam Construction as well as Chinese companies Shanghai Electric and Dongfang Electric Corporation. This form part of the team that won the contract.

The 6,600-megawatt (MW) coal project is being develop an independent power producer (IPP). The IPP is basis on Egyptian Electricity Holding Company.
