HOIMA STADIUM CONSTRUCTION: LEGISLATOR WARN PEOPLE OVER CON ARTIST

Bugahya legislator Pius Wakabi has cautioned the public to be wary of individuals demanding money in exchange for jobs in the ongoing Hoima stadium construction project.

The Turkish contractor MS Summa has initiated site clearing, recruitment of casual laborers, land surveys, and soil testing for the multi-purpose stadium in Hoima City.

Wakabi warned that unscrupulous individuals are exploiting the project to scam unsuspecting people. He highlighted an incident where a con artist from Kampala charged Shs50,000 from each person, falsely promising them jobs as private security guards for the stadium. The scammer absconded with Shs50 million.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that investigations are underway following complaints and statements from the victims.

The construction project, located in Kyarwiru village, aims to boost the local economy, especially in the hotel and hospitality sectors. The stadium is expected to seat 20,000 people and is part of preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
