CONSTRUCTION KICKS OFF ON NIGERIA’S LONGEST CONCRETE ROAD PROJECT

AG-Dangote Construction Company Limited starts construction of Nigeria’s longest concrete road.

The construction of Nigeria’s longest rigid pavement on the Obajana-Kabba road project in Kogi State have kicked off. AG-Dangote Construction Company Limited is handling this construction. The Managing Director of AG-Dangote Construction Company, Ashif Juma said, the project will be complete in due time.

The 44km Obajana- Kabba road which will link the North and the South of Nigeria is the longest concrete road project in Nigeria.

Currently, 33 km of the earthworks and 23 km of rigid pavement is already complete. However, according to Juma, the project will be complete by December 2018.

Dangote Group recommends that Nigerian government switch over to constructing roads using concrete instead of asphalt. It describes concrete as superior, durable and cheaper, and it does not require frequent maintenance. Concrete roads do not translate to potholes. It saves fuel for motorists and protects tyres from wear and tear.

In a statement by the Corporate Communications Department of Dangote Group, the company will support government and also Nigerians to grow the economy and facilitate ease of doing business.

In line with this, the Obajana-Kabba rigid pavement road project is part of the Dangote Group Plc Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS). The company before now have also commission a 26km Itori-Ibese Concrete Road. Babatunde Raji Fashola, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, was present at the commissioning and praised the Group.
