CHINESE COMPANY TO RECONSTRUCT OSISIOMA – OWERRINTA ROAD.

US $11 m for reconstruction Osisioma road awarded to CGGC, are there no good local contractors?

Despite the pouring rain yesterday, Governor Ikpeazu flagged off the reconstruction of the Osisioma – Owerrinta federal road. This action is a prove to his statement during the occasion that the road is very dear to him as well as being of great importance to the state’s economy. He pleaded with his people to brace the efforts of the contractors to ensure timely completion of the project.

The road is truly important as there is also a Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Depot in Osisioma LGA. Previous Administrations had earlier abandoned reconstruction of the Osisioma – Owerrinta road based on the argument that it’s a Federal road and so should be handled by the Federal Government.

The 1.6 kilometers road project awarded to China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) Construction Company will link Osisioma Ngwa and Isiala Ngwa South local government. CGGC has been in Nigeria since 2016 with its North – East head quarters in Abuja. CGGC has done some fine projects in the country including there just concluded Aba – Ikot Epkene road.

Local contractors should be more involved in projects like this not only because they are home based and will likely reinvest capitals from these projects into the country’s economy but as a way of encouraging, growing and patronizing our own skillful engineers. In addition, it could go a far way as to curb the current alarming rate of unemployment in the country. There are more benefits of involving our local  contractors in projects like this.
