JOB DESCRIPTION 

A cost effective and high standard supply chain is the backbone for a successful retail business. The purpose of this role is to manage the supply chain for the Convenience Retail (CR) offer in South Africa. As such, it is responsible for the development of the CR supply chain strategies, enforcement of contractual obligations for service level standards and product availabilities, relationship management with pivotal stakeholders, and delivery of continuous operational improvements.

Key accountability include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that CR has the most efficient supply chain possible, delivering against the CR growth strategies, financial targets and income streams whilst meeting the needs of the consumer led shop format strategies
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of retail fundamentals such a purchasing, assortment, merchandising and operational processes and procedures
  • Establish and maintain a multi-functional relationship with all levels of supply chain personnel to ensure effective sustainable contract management and continuous improvement
  • Deliver a robust supply chain solution to best optimize a multi-format proposition across a spectrum of categories, ensuring CR sales and income streams can be maximized
  • Initiate remedial action when required
  • Manage the collection, insight generation and dissemination of Supply Chain data
  • Develop and implement effective service level KPIs that allows the business to track efficiencies and the measure performance
  • Participate in CR supply chain tenders led by Contracts & Procurement
  • Support and challenge supply chain partners to improve operational efficiencies
  • Champion compliance to HSSE requirements and targets set for the CR Supply Chain
  • Demonstrate close collaboration with stakeholders in the broader Shell retail team and across different areas of the business
  • Collaborate with CR global counterparts with initiatives and sharing of best practice


Dimensions

  • The CR Supply Chain Manager is responsible for managing business critical relationships with our chosen CR supply chain providers on behalf of Shell CR. The appointed person will work with different supply chain providers to ensure optimum service levels and product availability are provided across multiple categories, supporting delivery of the CR offer and the formal business plan
  • Management of the CR Supply Chain providers to ensure fulfilment of their contractual obligations.
  • Management of 2 direct reports
 

Requirements

 

The following requirements will form part of the evaluation and selection process for the candidates for this role:

  • A bachelor’s degree with minimum of 6 years relevant experience (preferable within FMCG)
  • Good experience in Supply Chain management and contract management is required
  • Direct experience or a clear understanding of the convenience retail business will be a clear advantage.
  • Experience in multiple retail disciplines would be beneficial
  • Robust analytical skills with a rounded consumer led mindset and understanding of the customer and/or retailer
  • Good experience managing internal and external stakeholder
