Villagers have set up road blocks as they try to hunt the “vampires” down.
Mobs searching for vampires have been mounting road blocks in the district, raising security concerns over five people been killed in the area since mid September and accusing them of drinking blood as part of magic rituals.
According to the UN, it has pulled staff out of two districts due to the vampire scare across the southern part of Malawi.
The government has imposed a night-time curfew to prevent anymore deaths. This will restrict movement to 10 hours a day (07:00 to 17:00 local time).
According to the UN in a report, the vampirism tends to be originated from Mozambique, and it spread across the border to the Malawi districts of Mulanje and Phalombe.
