SOUTH AFRICA IS LIKELY TO SUFFER DROUGHT AGAIN
South Africa rations water to maintain diminishing water supplies after a dry summer.
South Africa is likely to suffer drought again due to low rainfall and dry summer as a result of this, emergency plans are currently in place to prevent diminishing water supply in the country.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation the water level at the Dam has dropped to 60% compared to 2018. Meanwhile, the Minister of Human Settlement,Water and Sanitation Lindiwe Sisulu fears for the water taps going dry very soon, hence the urgent need to ration the water supply.
“We are working hard to avoid the much-dreaded Day Zero phenomenon and instead we are announcing restrictions on water usage,” said Sisulu.
Day Zero is scenario were the water tap runs completely dry regardless of the emergence plans.
South Africa is among the first 30 countries in the world that suffer from drought. According to the National Disaster Management Center the Northern Cape which is ranked number one city in the country has not seen rainfall for six years.
