SOUTH AFRICA WATER MASTER PLAN LAUNCHED
Water master plan launched in South Africa to help avoid 17% water deficit by 2030.
South Africa Ministry of Human Settlements, Water & Sanitation has launch the nation water master plan. The plan which was launched in Gauteng was developed in conjunction with water sector stakeholders.
Speaking during the launch, Minister of Human Settlements, Water & Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu said it is now important for her department to focus on supplying water for all.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PLAN
1. To structure the Department to make it fit for purpose, eliminate wastage and any loss due to corruption and mismanagement of resources.
2. To address the water and sanitation goals of the country as envisioned in the National Development Plan (NDP), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all United Nations Member States – in particular SDG6: – as well as the African Union Agenda 2063.
3. To support and give the President’s Economic Stimulus and Recovery Plan (ESRP) and give priority to the ‘Five broad parts’.
4. To give effect to initiatives and programmes announced in the State of the Nation Address 2019 (SONA), specifically, the Public-Private Growth Initiative (PPGI).
According to Lindiwe Sisulu, South Africa can avoid a projected 17% water deficit by 2030 by implementing the National Water and Sanitation Master Plan.
