LIBERIA’s GENTA-YEKEPA ROAD CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES DESPITE CORONA VIRUS FEARS
Construction of Genta-Yekepa road is still ongoing despite the corona virus outbreak. The project which is carried-out by a Senegalese firm Compagnie Saheliane D’Enterprise/CS.
According to one of the senior supervisor who spoke to Liberia Daily observer, the road work is progressing in line with the lock down hours. That they usually stop work at 3pm daily.
He said they are targeting to connect from where they began laying the asphalt or coal-tar and then, afterward, they will continue the work to Sanniquellie.
The design of the road is yet to be made public by the company but observers say the current width does not appear to be wide enough to accommodate the creation of a sidewalk.
The road project has been on hold for a long time since it began in 2007. It was recently open after President George Weah visted Genta in 2018 which subsequently led to the recommencement of the road project.
The road construction is a birthday gift to former President Ellen John Sirleaf when Lakshmi Mittal, CEO of ArcelorMittal, visited Liberia.
