KENYA SIGNS €1.3BN PPP HIGHWAY TO FRENCH CONSORTIUM
President Uhuru Kenyatta is currently in Paris on an official state visit to French President Emmanuel Macron. Both leaders witness the signing of a €1.3bn highway public-private partnership (PPP) to be constructed in Kenya by VINCI Highways.
VINCI Highways is a leading concessions company and provider of road transport services around the world. Working with local partners, VINCI Highways designs, finances, builds and operates highway infrastructures.
This will be their first PPP in Africa, and the project involves the upgrade of a trunk road into a modern 175-kilometer dual two-lane motorway. This upgrade will serve as a strategic infrastructure for Kenya’s economic development. The consortium will finance, build and operate the new, 175-km Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway for 30 years.
The agreement will become effective following the performance of an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment in compliance with the high standards of the World Bank. The financial close of the project is expected to occur by the end of 2021.
