John Magufuli denies the proposal of increasing the presidential term from his party members
John Magufuli rejects proposal from his party to extend presidential term
Magufuli has disclosed in a statement that he is displeased by the current parley about increasing the presidential term from five to seven years, adding that there is need to focus on developing the Tanzanians econcomy.
‘‘The debate on extending the term limit is useless. Tanzanians should concentrate on building their economy,’‘ the president said.
The statement came after some members of the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) suggested that Magufuli should extend the presidential term from 5 years to 7 years, so he could likely remain in power for 14 years.
This is the second time the president is dismissing proposals by members of his party to extend the presidential term.
