TANZANIA’S SUMBAWANGA AIRPORT RECEIVE FUNDS FOR UPGRADE
Sumbawanga Airport receive US $24.9m for upgrade of airport to international standard.
The sumbawanga airport will soon be upgrade after funds was release by the government. The upgrade which will cost US $24.9m would make it an international standard and help grow the economic. It will also attract business opportunity from neighbouring countries like Zambia and DRC.
The Deputy Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Atashasta Niditiye, had visit the site to inspect the airport during his two day working tour in Rukwa region. He confirmed that the government has secure over US $24.9m of loan through Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA). He also said that they have a soft loan from European Investment Bank (EIB).
The resident of the area will get the sum of US $1.5m for compensation. The compensation is for two wards of Old Sumbawanga whom area where taken for the project.
The compensation money had been verified by experts from the Ministry of Finance and Planning according to the Minister. He was shocked to see people and kid playing on the site. He immediately requested that TAA to ensure the airport boundaries and area are fence as soon as possible.
