LAGOS 3RD MAINLAND BRIDGE TO UNDERGO REHABILITATION
Nigeria to rehabilitate Lagos 3rd Mainland bridge.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) of Nigeria have given approval for the rehabilitation of the 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos. The repair works on the bridge is worth about US$52.6m.
The council gave the approval at an FEC meeting presided by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. Italian construction firm, Borini Prono will be responsible for the repair works. Borini Porno is also responsible for constructing the bridge.
According to the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, the rehabilitation was initially conceived in 2011 but was not captured in the budget.
The renovation work will come to completion in about 27 months and it is now also in the 2018 budget.
Phase 1 of the project will involve replacement of 33 piles and also strengthening of a total of 177 piles. There will also be an assessment of the joints linking the bridge with a view to replace and expand the obsolete ones.
