EGYPT HOUSING MINISTRY SET TO ESTABLISH 1.1M RESIDENTIAL UNIT
Ministry of Housing considering establishing a 1.1m residential unit by implementing the sustainability concepts in Egypt.
Ministry of Housing in Egypt is making plans to build 1.1million residential unit over the next five years. This is after the newly established urban communities became one of the engines of economic growth in Egypt.
The Ministry is only waiting for the recommendation form the LafargeHolcim Forum. This forum which is in its 6th year was focus on “Re-materializing construction” in Egypt. This recommendation will aimed at further understanding what is needed to grow the housing sector.
Speaking during the Forum, chairperson of LafargeHolcim Foundation Roland Köhler said global issues are the challenges facing sustainable construction. He also mention that climate change, population growth, and migration are becoming a shared concern which impact our lives.
Meanwhile according to deputy minister of housing, Khaled Abbas, Building sustainability is a priority in the country’s 2030 Vision.
During the Forum, CEO of Lafarge Egypt Hussein Mansi said Building sustainability is not only a global trend. He said we have held several meetings with the ministry of housing due to their interest in implementing the sustainability concepts to achieve environmental balance within the new communities that are being developed.
The Ministry of Housing see the new sustainability concepts as a means of developing a more sustainable building that will better the life of their citizens. The 6th International LafargeHolcim Forum for Sustainable Construction was hosted by the American University in Cairo. The event took place early this month from April 4 to 6, 2019.
