SOUTH AFRICA MINISTER CALLS FOR MAINTENANCE OF WATER INFRASTRUCTURE
Minister calls for prioritization of water and sanitation maintenance among municipalities.
Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Lindiwe Sisulu has calls to priorities the maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure. The minister who made the remark during a briefing by water and sanitation department acting director general Squire Mahlangu.
The briefing was inline with the water shortage on Mahikeng in the North West of South Africa. According to Sisulu, she has directed Mahlangu to submit a national report on the state of water and sanitation infrastructure in the Area.

Lindiwe Sisulu said “We want to understand the state of our water and sanitation infrastructure. We want to work with municipalities to ensure that there is ongoing maintenance and modernization of infrastructure to avoid pollution.”
She also directed the DG to submit a report on funding allocated to municipalities and expenditure trends. According to her, the department of human settlements, water and sanitation must grow capacity to monitor all our sources. This sources include water, dams, rivers and must focus on maintenance and prevention of pollution; modern technology and a strong inspectorate should be able to assist us.
