RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT AND JULIUS BERGER SIGN DEAL FOR THREE FLYOVER

Rivers State Government has awarded Julius Berger Nigeria Plc the contract for construction of three flyover bridges in Port Harcourt.

Following the successful geotechnical site investigation and design phase, the Rivers State Government has awarded the contract for the building of Three Flyover Bridge to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc. The signing of the contract was held yesterday at the state house, with the Attorney-General of Rivers State, Dr Zaccheus Adango  and Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr Lars Richter.

The length and location of the Flyover Bridges (overpass) will be;

  • Artillery 1 and 2  (517.5 metres)
  • Rumuokoro (360 metres)
  • Garrison (360 metres)

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike charged the contractor to finish the projects within 16months and in line with approved specifications. In order to achieve this, the Rivers State Government promised to pay 70 percent of the contract sum to ensure that the contractor execute the three flyover bridges. The cost of this infrastructure has not been disclosed.

REACTIONS:

Gambeta News has applauded the Governor, who is locally known as Mr. Project! We continue to advocate for an Engineer-General in times like this! Government has a professional Lawyer as Attorney-General who is responsible for all legal matters involving the state, a professional accountant as Accountant General who is responsible for the financial health of the treasury. It is not out of place for government to have a professional engineer as Engineer-General who will ensure proper planning and delivery of infrastructure in the state! WHAT DO YOU THINK?

REACTIONS FROM RESIDENTS IN THE STATE:

This project will alleviate our sufferings from traffic congestion.

But going by the aim of decongesting the city, don’t you think that investing in new cities is a better approach than building more flyovers in the existing one? Shouldn’t the organised private sector engage the government on this because that is our role and they don’t seem to know everything?
