Prime Minister Edouard Ngirent announced that the Kigali Infrastructure Project (KIP), which had been delayed due to funding issues, will resume this month.
Addressing lawmakers on June 5, Ngirente assured that all the roads that were under construction will be completed, and planning for the project’s second phase will follow.
The KIP, which began in 2022, aims to construct over 215 kilometers of roads in Kigali. Despite progress in various parts of the city, construction was halted on some roads due to financial constraints.
An Auditor General’s report earlier this year highlighted that the project had only secured around $150 million, about 37% of the needed $404 million, causing significant delays and challenges.
