HOW EYGPT INVESTMENT IN DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE WILL HELP SECURE DATA HUB

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s recent emphasis on Egypt’s role as a global data transfer hub underscores the country’s significant investments in infrastructure and digital transformation.

Egypt has invested billions of US dollars in creating a robust infrastructure to support its position as a global data transfer hub. Approximately 90% of the world’s submarine cables pass through Egypt, highlighting its strategic location for data transmission.

So far, Egypt has successfully localized its data within its territory, reducing reliance on storing data abroad. The government data and cloud computing centre (P1) on Ain Sokhna Road will securely house data from all ministries, with access restricted to authorized personnel.

Initiatives like the digital transformation of the “Justice City” in the New Administrative Capital demonstrate Egypt’s commitment to technological advancement. Engineering concepts are being adjusted to align with digital standards, enhancing efficiency and accessibility.

President Al-Sisi emphasizes the importance of education, particularly in fields like programming and data science. Egyptian families are encouraged to support their children’s education in these areas to meet the demand for skilled human resources.

Al-Sisi highlights the potential for economic growth through outsourcing, citing examples of smaller countries employing significant numbers of people in this sector. By investing in education, Egypt can tap into this opportunity and boost exports.

Al-Sisi also urges Egyptian youth to focus on programming and data science, noting that traditional faculties may no longer be sufficient in the rapidly evolving technological landscape. These fields hold the key to future employment opportunities.

The state is committed to allocating funds for teaching programming skills, with investment ranging from $30,000 to $60,000 per person. This investment aims to ensure Egypt’s progress in technology and equip its workforce with the necessary skills for success.

President Al-Sisi’s remarks underscore Egypt’s determination to leverage technology for economic development and position itself as a leader in the digital era.
