BOTSWANA AND MALAWI REVIVE BILATERAL RELATIONS TO EXPLORE NEW AREAS OF COOPERATION, MINING
Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K Masisi President of the Republic of Botswana gives a statement on his return from a 1 day working visit to Malawi
“A very good evening to you all. We are safely back from the Republic of Malawi. I had a good engagement with my brother, His Excellency President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera We have committed to revive and deepen our bilateral relations through the resuscitation of our Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation(JPCC) which was last held in 2013. We also discussed possible new areas of cooperation such as mining, agriculture, fisheries, and educational exchange programmes. Botswana has in the past benefited from migrant labour and educationists from Malawi such as Professor Felix Mnthali (who happens to have taught me and Dr Chakwera) and Professor David Rubadiri who taught in Botswana. Some of their children have since made Botswana their permanent home. We would like to share skills in education especially that we are both in pursuit of a knowledge-based economy. I am also pleased that Dr. Chakwera warmly received our appeal for them to support our candidate for the SADC Executive Secretary Mr. Elias Magosi.”
