THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE LARGEST MALL IN CENTRAL AFRICA KICKS OFF.
Cameroon on the verge of building the largest mall in Central Africa. The mall will attract visitor for both business and leisure reasons.
Plans for the shopping mall with convection center and cinemas has kicked off at the capital Douala. The US$53m project will be completed by 2019 will attract visitors for business and leisure. Hence, the construction plans, methods and design are such that the it will stand out from other local competitors.
On completion, it would be Central Africa’s largest mall with the ground floor area of 25,600 meter square. The mall is located close to the international airport where over 1.5million people visit daily.
The Douala Grand Mall is part of a larger development that will include a five-star hotel, offices and residential apartments being built in the near future. The ground floor of the complex will have 14,160 m 2 of retail space while the first floor will house 11,520 m2 including a modern conference centre, cinemas, and food court and retail space. There will also be underground parking in the basement.
Insulated cladded panels will be used for both the walls and roof while double glazing will be used on skylights and shopfronts. The building will be climate controlled and the first of its kind in Cameroon.
