DEVELOPMENT FIRM COMBINED TO CONSTRUCT MWENDA-KASHIBA ROAD
Construction of road project on track after inspection.
The construction of the road project is a joined Public Private Partnership between Groupe Européen de Développement (GED) and Development Bank of Southern Africa.
The both firm conducted an environmental assessment of the 187 km road that will cost US $475m. The project will have a modern bridge across Luapula River and a Border Post at Kashiba. It will also connect Zambia to Congo DR in Luapula Province through Chipili and Mwense districts.
GED country manager Marcus Ascott; “US $221m will be spent on the Zambian side while the rest of the funds will be spent in Congo DR”.
The project will connect Chipili to SADC country. The youth are expected to benefit as employment will be issued to them when the project begins.
Chipili Town Council chairperson Isaac Kafwimbi; “I am privileged to have a meeting with your team (GED Africa) in Chipili district. This road will bring development for our people,”
According to him, GED Africa should not abandon the contract along the way like other contractors in the district. He also stated that the project will give people employment.
