ISAKA-KIGALI RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION TO KICK-OFF IN DECEMBER
Construction of Isaka-Kigali railway to begin in December after both Tanzania and Rwanda agree deal.
The proposed construction of Isaka-Kigali railway will kick-off in december 2018. This was announce after both Tanzania and Rwanda conclude plans on the railway construction. Meanwhile, the only item remaining is the appointment of a contractor.
The project was made public through a joint statement by the Tanzania Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Isaack Kamwelwe, and his Rwandan counterpart Claver Getete. Meanwhile, the two meet in Dar es Salaam to finalise plans of the $2.5 billion project.
The both nation has conclude on the finance with Tanzania seeking a loan to fund the Isaka-Rusumo stretch. Meanwhile, Rwanda are opting for a public-private partnership model for its stretch of the line.
On completion, the project will improve trade between the two countries by making it easy and cheaper for people and cargo to move across the common border. The construction of the a 726-km SGR line linking Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Dodoma actually kick-off last year.
