MADAGASCAR LAUNCH PARTNERSHIP WITH BIONEXX TO PRODUCE MEDICINES
The Madagascar is launching a partnership with the company Bionexx – a specialist in the cultivation of Artemisia. This partnership will make Madagascar the first African producer of medicines based on this plant with great medicinal properties!
BIONEXX is a Madagascar based company with model farms and an R&D center located on a 680 ha facility, 30km outside of Antananarivo. The company produces artemisinin from a herbal plant Artemisia Annua. The plant Artemisia Annua is grows mainly in China but also grows in Vietnam and some African countries. The extracts from this herbal plant is used in malaria medicine, and accounts for 80% of Bionexx’s turnover.
BIONEXX works with approximately 10,000 of out-growers, together, they cultivate Artemisia annua on almost 3000 ha among 10 regions in Madagascar. In essence, Madagascar is the only African country which produces Artemisia Annua at scale.
