President Julius Maada Bio announce tender plans for bridge construction that will link Freetown International Airport
Plans has been announced by Sierra leone Government to construct a bridge that will link the nation international airport. The project which is currently at its tender stage will help citizens when boarding any Flight.
Sierra leone has been using boat or helicopter to access the Freetown International Airport at Lungi. Meanwhile, the new 7 km Lungi bridge will cost the nation between US$1.3 billion and US$2 billion.
Speaking during the announcement, President Julius Maada Bio said “I will closely superintend the entire process and ensure that every tender is compliant and every tender is in the best long-term interest of Sierra Leone.”
The news is a welcome development as citizen are finding it hard to access the Freetown International Airport. This is due to the distance of nearly five km (three mile) separating the capital from the Airport.
Sierra Leone’s transportation ministry official, James Turner said ”The project would take between four and five years to complete, and would likely be financed through a public-private partnership scheme, such as a toll gate.”
The bridge will be of great benefit as Freetown International Airport is the only international Airport in the country.
