UPGRADING OF INFORMAL SETTLEMENT GETS FUNDS IN SA
The upgrading of informal settlement has been boosted as fund is made available. The announcement was made by Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu during a virtual sitting of the National Assembly on Tuesday.
According to Sisulu, the fund which is worth R4.6 billion has been allocated to provinces and metro municipalities to upgrade over 300 informal settlements.
She also noted that the upgrading plans that were already agreed with communities and municipalities needed to be implemented instantly. As the extent of the housing needs across the country have fallen into sharp focus in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
She further said that the programme for the upgrading of informal settlements is strongly anchored on collaboration with resident communities.
