FOOTBRIDGE CONSTRUCTION ON THIKA SUPERHIGHWAY KICK-OFF IN KENYA

Construction of four footbridge on thika superhighway to enhance safety of individuals in kenya kick-off.

The construction of the footbridge on the thika superhighway has kick-off in Kenya. The thika superhighway which already have 18 existing footbridges will have an additional four. The new footbridges will enhance safety of pedestrians when speed bumps are remove.

The footbridges are being erected at: Mang’u area, Witeithie, Garden Estate Junction and Survey of Kenya. It will be located just before the junction to Kenya School of Monetary Studies (KSMS).

Interways Works Limited and Fourways Construction Limited got the US $8.2m contract. In the contract, interways work limited are to construct the Witeithie and Mangu footbridges at a cost of US $4.3m. While Fourway Construction Limited are constructing KSMS and Garden City footbridges at a cost of US $3.9m.

Kenha Director-General, Peter Mundinia said “The safety bumps installed on the highway will be remove. He also said that the completion of the footbridge will ease traffic in the area.

The installation of a speed limit has also been with the aim to reduce accident in the area. The speed limit will also have a signage that will promote safety of individuals.

Peter Mundinia said “The new signage will replace previous ones either vandalized or knocked down by motorists. He also said that the new signage are part of our efforts to reduce accidents along the busy superhighway.”

Motorists are to pay US $100 for fine, if they exceed the speed limits on the traffic signs.
