GHANA SEEKS FOR LOWER SULPHUR CONTENT IN NIGERIAN FUEL
Ghana urges Nigeria to reduce sulphur content in its fuel
The institution responsible for petroleum regulation in Nigeria have been asked by its counterpart, the Ghana National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to take measures in reducing the sulphur content in its diesel fuel to about 50parts per million(ppm).
Currently Nigeria is doing 3,000ppm of sulphur content and this is considered as been toxic.
According to CEO of the NPA, Alhassan Tampuli, reducing the sulphur content of Nigerian fuel will help the West African sub-region since the two countries (Nigeria and Ghana) control about 70 percent of fuel consumption in the region.
Comparing current sulphur content across some African countries; Egypt has 10,000ppm, Nigeria has 3000ppm, Tunisia, 3000ppm, Senegal 5000ppm, while Ghana and South Africa has 50ppm.
Ghana have used stringent measures to achieve this success and is urging Nigeria to do same.
