Local contractor firms ignored as Lebanese firm win big contract in Liberia
Liberian firms are unhappy that local contractor are not consider during contract bidding. This is after they lost to a lebanese firm during a tender process for a big contract in the nation.
During President George Weah inaugural address in January 2018, he said that under his watch Liberians will not become a spectators to the economy. Fast forward months later, it is the other way around as Lebanese firms has dominate the sector when it comes to contract bidding. Meanwhile, one of the major contract is the construction of 14 Military Hospital.
The contract was to supply building materials worth US$2,977,230.31 for the construction of the 14 Military Hospital. It was given to Bittar Construction Company which is making local contractors to be unhappy. They feel such contract should be assign to them because they have the means of completing it.
In most developed nation, local contractors are left out when it comes to nation building but is it the right way. Meanwhile foreign expert or contractors are getting the job. What is the best way to solving this problem??
