PRELIMINARY WORKS ON NAIROBI EXPRESSWAY UNDERWAY IN KENYA

Kenya’s Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) has announced commencement of Nairobi expressway via their social media handle. The expressway will begins at Mlolongo to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), then move to Nairobi’s Central Business District before terminating at Westlands along Waiyaki Way.

The US$563m (Ksh60B ) Expressway will feature 8, 6 and 4 lanes based on projected traffic. It will also aim to decongest Nairobi Metropolitan by providing faster, reliable and less costly transport.

According to PDU, the project is being financed under Public-Private Project (PPP) partnership with project investors expecting to recoup their costs through modest pay-as-you-use fees at designated toll stations. The expressway is expected to serve at least 25,000 vehicles per day.

The main construction activities on the 27.1Km project are scheduled for July 2020 with December 2022 set for completion date.
