THIKA SUPERHIGHWAY CLOSURE AFFECTING MOTORIST
The partial closure of Thika Superhighway is seriously affecting motorists in the country. Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) closed the highway so as to pave way for the completion of footbridge at the Survey of Kenya which is still yet to began. According to the authority, the road was to be closed until mid-April but yet nothing has happened.
In a bid to help contractors do their work, motorist now use a single inner lane as some have been diverted to the motorcycle and bicycle lane. Thika Superhighway is one of Kenya’s busiest roads linking Nairobi to other part of the country.
The Survey of Kenya and Garden City footbridges which is hindering motorist from moving freely comes at a construction cost of Sh390 million.
KeNHA has previously blamed the delay on a slow pre-export inspection of the importation of the Chinese-built footbridges.
Meanwhile, the highway is fitted with 18 footbridges, having an extra 10 more design yet to be erected due to lack of funds.
