GHANA GOVT. APPROVES FUND FOR REDEVELOPMENT OF RAILWAY PROJECTS
Ghana Government to purchase 30 rolling stones with approved funds
Ghana Government has approved funds worth US$230million for several railway redevelopment projects. This fund will be use to purchase 30 rolling stones for the rails.
The stone will be mounted on the new rail line which is currently under construction. It will also include a locomotives, carriages, railroad cars as well as wagons to ensure smooth operationalisation.
Minister of Railways Development, Mr Joe Ghartey said “We don’t want a situation where the rail lines are completed and there are no trains to mount on them. When that happens, how can we even test the lines.”
According to the minister, the approval has been made but placing of orders are still pending. This is because some consultant had been engaged to look at what kind of cargo and vans were needed for the country.
Ghartey said he is sure that buy the end of july, the orders will be placed to ensure that the stone arrive on time. This will enable them test for integrity before the operation of the line.
Ghartey also said President Nana Akufo-Addo vision to revamp the sector is on course and will soon be witnessed by many ghanaians.
